Quote form; (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cartoon_series)
A cartoon series is a set of regularly presented animated episodes with a common series title, usually related to one another. These episodes typically share the same characters and a basic theme. For television broadcasts, programs are created or adapted with a common series title, usually related to one another and can appear as much as up to once a week or daily during a prescribed time slot. Cartoon series also apply outside broadcast television, as was the case for the Tom and Jerry shorts that appeared in movie theaters from 1961–1962. Series can have either a finite number of episodes and a definite end, or be open-ended, without a predetermined number of episodes.

Station identification is the practice of radio or television stations or networks identifying themselves on air, typically by means of a call sign or brand name (sometimes known, particularly in the United States, as a "sounder" or "stinger", more generally as a station or network ID). This may be to satisfy requirements of licensing authorities, a form of branding or a combination of both. As such it is closely related to production logos used in television and cinema, alike.

Cinema

Animation is an art form which, in its modern appearance, appeared alongside the development of film. Earlier attempts at making drawings move were only experimental.

Advertising

Some adverts are animated to make it more exciting and fun, for example the Coca-Cola advert.
Here’s a link to YouTube if you wish to watch the advert;
Animated adverts are everywhere, on TV and on the websites that we everyday use.

A television advertisement or television commercial is a clip of a message to the views about their product. Advertising is used on many channels however, the BBC don’t have advertisements or television commercials as they get their money by television licenses.
Animated advertisements let a range of views connect with the audience for example Coca-Cola advert shown above is fun and exciting.

The Gorillaz are a good example of animated music videos, they often use animated videos to make them more exciting.
Quote from: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gorillaz)
Gorillaz is a musical project created in 1998 by British musician Damon Albarn and British cartoonist Jamie Hewlett. This project consists of the Gorillaz music itself and an extensive fictional universe depicting a "virtual band" of cartoon characters. This band is composed of four animated members: 2D (lead vocalist, keyboard), Murdoc Niccals (bass guitar), Noodle (guitar, keyboard, and occasional vocals) and Russel Hobbs (drums and percussion).

Computer games

Most modern computer animation use 3D computer graphics, however, 2D animation is still used today. Computer animation is produced from stop motion animation which is shot frame-by-frame.
Quote from :( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_animation);
Computer animation is the process used for generating animated images by using computer graphics. The more general term computer generated imagery encompasses both static scenes and dynamic images, while computer animation only refers to moving images produced by exploiting the persistence of vision to make a series of images look animated. Given that images last for about one twenty-fifth of a second on the retina fast image replacement creates the illusion of movement.
